ORGC members meet monthly during the fall-thru-spring season to share their interests in flowers and plants in cultivated and natural settings. Our monthly meetings provide social activities and learning opportunities.  As residents of the coastal community of Ocean Ridge, we are also neighbors who want to preserve the barrier island environment we share.

Community Outreach

Ocean Ridge Garden Club is the only community service organization in the Town of Ocean Ridge.  We are always looking for new ways to engage, enrich and serve our community.  Our past community service projects have included:

Installation of a Blue Star Marker

The Ocean Ridge Blue Star Marker honoring the service of local military members was unveiled at a dedication ceremony on Memorial Day 2019. The ceremony, conducted in conjunction with American Legion Post 164 and District X of  the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC), was followed by a picnic lunch reception for the community.  The Blue Star Marker was also the centerpiece of a community cookout prepared by Ocean Ridge Police and ORGC on Veteran’s Day 2019.

Conservation Education

To further the club’s commitment to outreach and education, the surrounding community is invited to participate annually in an educational event that varies each year.  The 2020 event “Save the Seas - Plastics Free” is  currently on hold due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Valentine's Day floral arrangements for shut-ins

ORGC members put their floral design skills to use annually by creating flower arrangements to be delivered on Valentine’s Day to shut-ins in the surrounding community.

Holiday Tree for "Light the Lights" Celebration

ORGC members provide and decorate the Town Hall Christmas tree. Club members also prepare and serve refreshments at an annual "Lights the Lights" community event kicking off the holiday season.

Angel Tree

An "Angel Tree" benefits children at the Caridad Center and provides another way to give back to the surrounding community.

Beautification and Conservation

Plant installations in Ocean Ridge

The  ORGC’s Beautification Committee plans and installs native plantings on community properties annually.  Ongoing projects include conservation of dune plantings and beach clean-up.

Native Orchid Installation at Ocean Ridge Hammock Park

Working with FAU’s Orchid Lab to restore wild orchids to South Florida, ORGC members did their part by installing native orchids in trees at the Ocean Ridge Hammock Park.

Scholarship Program

The Patrice Mahon Scholarship Fund

The Patrice Mahon Scholarship Fund supports education in the field of gardening and horticulture. Currently, ORGC contributes an annual stipend to a graduate student doing research at FAU Pine Jog Environmental Center

The Ann Cody Wekiva Youth Camp Scholarship Program

The Ann Cody Wekiva Youth Camp Scholarship Program funds a week-long overnight camping experience that focuses on environmental issues specific to Florida for local elementary and middle school-aged students. Student tuition, transportation and some camp supplies are funded by the ORGC, its membership donations, fundraising events, and grants.

Fundraising

Each season we plan engaging fund raisers to support our mission.  This year we are selling anannual holiday ornament.  We hope you will visit our online Shop, which you can find at the top of this page.

ORGC has hosted two “Gala” fund-raising events open to the public, with wine-tasting, hors d’oeuvres and a cheese board, a raffle and entertainment.  Proceeds from the Gala events benefit ORGC's Patrice Mahon Scholarship Fund and all of the club's community service projects.

A first-ever "Holiday Plant Sale & Pet Photos with Santa" event took place in December 2019.  Unsold plants were delivered to shut-ins, thanks to Ocean Ridge Community Policing Officer Debra Boyle.
